Write with Respect — Google Chrome extension
As a writer I was shocked to learn that many expressions we use every day have racist origins. Did you know the term “nitty-gritty” originates from slave traders referring to lice and grit remains at the bottom of slave ships? Once I found out the troubling history of these terms, I never wanted to use them again, and I knew if other people knew the origins they would avoid these terms too.
So we proactively set out to rewrite these wrongs by creating ‘Respect’ — a free Google Chrome extension that helps make everyone’s writing more inclusive. Respect flags problematic language in real-time when you write emails, explains the offensive origin, and provides a synonym, before you hit send.
You can install Respect via the Chrome Web Store
